CHARLOTTETOWN - Provincial health officials say one case of listeriosis was confirmed in Prince Edward Island over the weekend.

However, officials say the case has not yet been linked to the outbreak that has triggered a series of recalls of processed food products.

The patient is being treated with antibiotics and is in stable condition in hospital.

It will take seven to 10 days for tests to determine if it is the same bacterial strain of Listeria that resulted in the recall of items from Maple Leaf Foods.

It is the first reported case of listeriosis in Atlantic Canada since the outbreak started.

On Sunday, the number of confirmed deaths in the country from the listeriosis outbreak increased to 11, with young children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems at high risk.
