OpenTable releases lists of highest-rated restaurants in Canada and the U.S.

California leads OpenTable's list of the 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America, dominating the leaderboard with 17 addresses on the list.

The online restaurant reservation site released the latest edition of its list for the U.S., after looking at the combined opinions of more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 20,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

After California, New York landed nine spots on the list, followed by Pennsylvania (8), Virginia (6), and Illinois and New Jersey with five each.

The most popular cuisines in the U.S. are French, Italian, Asian, Hawaiian, Israeli and Persian.

A Canadian version of the list was also released, with Ontario leading the scoreboard with 45 addresses, followed by Alberta (22) and British Columbia and Quebec with 14 each.

Canadian diners are particularly fond of Italian fare, which emerged the most popular type of cuisine followed by Canadian and French.
