Guelph Police have made arrests for a series of ‘quick change’ scams in the city. Two businesses in the south-end reported the same series of events. Staff said two men asked to exchange larger bills for smaller ones. “The men then asked for the bills to be exchanged again, eventually confusing the employees and leaving the store with more money than they had when they entered,” police explained in a media release. One business reportedly lost $200, while the other was out $120. “Officers checked the area and located the two men inside another business, where staff confirmed they had asked to break larger bills,” the release said. “The two were arrested and officers located various denominations of cash on each man.” During their investigation, police also learned the pair tried to pull off a similar scam at a dozen other businesses in the area. The 30-year-old and 22-year-old, who were both from Scarborough, were charged with 12 counts of fraud under $5,000.
