A driver from Guelph is facing several charges for moving a pylon in a construction zone. After receiving several complaints about drivers ignoring construction signs or using nearby parking lots to get around road blocks, the Guelph Police Service stationed officers near the corner of Waterloo Avenue and St. Arnaud Street. On Tuesday around 6 p.m., an officer saw a driver use his car to push a pylon out of the way so he could get into a parking lot. When the officer stopped the driver, they said they saw several empty alcohol containers inside the vehicle and could smell a strong odour. The driver was taken to a police station where tests confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, disobeying a sign and interfering with a highway fixture. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
