What’s open and closed in Waterloo Region over the holidays

With the holiday season in full swing, some businesses and services will be closed or operating on different schedules in Waterloo Region for Christmas on Dec. 25 and New Years on Jan 1.

Grocery, beer and liquor stores

Anyone looking to pick up last-minute food or alcohol should note most grocery stores in Waterloo Region are closed on Christmas Day.

The stores will open their doors again on Boxing Day, but may be operating on adjusted schedules. Many stores will be closed again for New Year’s Day.

Convenience and independent stores may remain open.

All LCBO stores will be closed on Christmas Day while select stores will be open on Dec. 26.

Beer Store locations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but some stores will be open on Boxing Day with modified hours:

• 200 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 150 Holiday Inn Drive, Cambridge – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. (drive thru only)
• 111 Silvercreek Parkway North, Guelph – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 710 Woolwich Street, Guelph – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 250 Bleams Road, Kitchener – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 875 Highland Road West, Kitchener – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 1120 Victoria Street North, Kitchener – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 260 C.H. Meier Boulevard, Stratford – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• 70 Weber Street North, Waterloo – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. (drive thru only)
• 624 King Street North, Waterloo – open 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Shopping Centres

Cambridge Centre, Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener and Conestoga Mall in Waterloo are all closed on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Conestoga will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Boxing Day and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Transit

Grand River Transit (GRT) will be operating on it holiday service schedule between Dec. 22 and Jan. 4.

All MobilityPLUS subscription trips will be cancelled on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

All GRT customer service centres will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Guelph transit will also be running on a holiday schedule.

Garbage and green bin collection

There will be no curbside collection across Waterloo Region on either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Any collection typically done on Thursdays will be postponed a day and Friday pickup will be done on Saturday.

Warming Centres

Daytime warming centres operated by the Region of Waterloo will be open on Dec 25, 26 and Jan. 1

The Cambridge Centre located at 150 Main Street will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Kitchener’s 150 Frederick Street location opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m.

Overnight warming spaces at 298 Lawrence Avenue in Kitchener and 6 Cambridge Street in Cambridge will be open on the nights of Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
