The Waterloo Regional Police Service is putting out a warning after another debit card was taken in a fraud. The latest incident happened near Fairway Station in Kitchener on Sept. 30 around 8:10 p.m. A victim was approached by a man who asked for help paying a food delivery driver. The man asked to use the victim’s debit card in exchange for cash. Later, the victim discovered their debit card had been switched during the payment, and their real card had been used in $400 worth of unauthorized transactions. The suspect is described as a man in his 20s with an average build. He wore a white shirt, grey pants and a chain necklace. The second suspect involved in the incident drove a black four-door sedan. Similar scams, often involving people posing as taxi drivers, have been reported throughout the years. To avoid becoming a victim, police encourage people to keep their debit or credit cards in sight at all times during transactions, avoid using cards to make payments for people you don’t know and always check that the card returned to you after a transaction is actually yours.
