Two men have been charged after Waterloo Regional Police say they interrupted an attempted vehicle theft in Cambridge early Sunday. Police said officers responded at approximately 5:10 a.m. to a report of two people attempting to steal a Toyota from a residential driveway near Linda Drive and Scott Road. Officers arrived and saw a Honda fleeing the area. Police said the suspects had arrived in the Honda and officers pursued the vehicle. The Honda was brought to a stop following a minor collision with a police cruiser, according to police. The occupants then tried to flee on foot but were arrested, police said. One man sustained minor injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital for assessment before being released. Investigators later determined the Honda had been stolen at approximately 2 a.m. from the area of Morgan Avenue in Kitchener. A 22-year-old man from Etobicoke and a 22-year-old man from Kitchener have each been charged with disguise with intent, possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of stolen property valued at more than $5,000 and two counts of motor vehicle theft.
