Three people are facing charges after police say they found them inside a vacant home in Guelph where wiring had been removed from the walls. Guelph Police said officers were called just before 9 a.m. Friday to a home near Whitelaw Road and Shoemaker Crescent following a report of suspicious activity. Officers found a side door that had been forced open. A woman exited the home after police called out and was arrested. Police believed other people were inside. After two men did not respond to officers, a canine unit was brought in and located them hiding in the house. “An examination of the house revealed drywall had been removed from many of the walls to expose wires, which were then removed and stripped to access the copper inside,” police said in a media release. “A large quantity of suspected stolen property including jewelry, phones and a car key was recovered, as well as a voltage detector commonly used to measure voltage before electrical work.” Two Guelph men, aged 44 and 37, and a 36-year-old Guelph woman are charged with break and enter and commit mischief, possession of break-in instruments, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and breaching court orders. The woman also faces a charge of possessing a controlled substance.
