High school students were encouraged to reach new heights and consider a career in aviation during a special event in Breslau. Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre hosted a High School Aviation night on Thursday, giving young people an up-close look at career opportunities within the field. “The ability to fly and the ability to experience those sensations, it’s something so unique,” Darius Secasan, Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre flight instructor, said. Students toured the facilities, got a chance to explore various planes and were given lots of information about the field. “Whether it’s being a pilot, helping people on the airplane, line crew, even Nav Canada in the control tower – there are lots of different options,” Julie Mudry, Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre manager of marketing and communications, said. For some students, it was an eye-opening experience. “I was going to be an accountant. I was going for my [Certified Public Accountant], but it was just very boring compared to this,” Seth Hogg told CTV News. “Looking at the planes, it looks like such a fun career. I’ve also learned a lot about the application process and made sure I’m on track for applying, which I am,” he said. The flight centre offers post secondary programs in partnership with the University of Waterloo in hopes of getting more pilots into the cockpit sooner. “Every airline right now is hiring, they’re looking for quality pilot to get in their aircrafts,” Mudry said. “Tourism is never going away, and demand is only going to get higher.”
