A Guelph man is accused of hitting his neighbour in the head with a hammer. On Wednesday, around 12:25 a.m., officers were called to a break-in at an apartment on Gordon Street. The victim said he was woken up by the sound of someone smashing his air conditioning unit. Then he saw a man standing in apartment, holding a hammer. Police said the suspect hit the victim in the face and strangled him briefly before taking off. When the victim followed, he found extensive damage to his vehicle. Police said all the windows and lights had been smashed. The victim was taken to hospital, and the man’s neighbour was arrested. The 21-year-old was charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and mischief over $1,000.
