More bad weather is expected in southwestern Ontario on Tuesday. Environment Canada is predicting several hours of freezing rain, which they say, “may be mixed with snow or ice pellets.” A special weather statement was issued for areas south of Bracebridge and Kingston, including Waterloo Region, Wellington County, Haldimand County, Norfolk County, Huron County and Perth County. According to the forecasting agency, these areas could get anywhere from 1 to 5 mm of ice accretion, or build up, starting Tuesday morning. For Waterloo Region and areas to the north, that freezing rain is expected to switch over to snow as a cold front moves in. The Greater Toronto Area and communities east and west of Waterloo Region, meantime, could get rain as temperatures climb above the freezing mark. “Areas along the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines may see very little ice accretion or build up,” Environment Canada advised, adding, “Roads and walkways may become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect. Local utility outages are possible.”
