Grey Bruce Public Health is asking for the public’s help to identify the owners of dogs involved in two unrelated biting incidents in Owen Sound and Hanover. The health unit said the first happened Tuesday, between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., near the duck pond at Harrison Park in Owen Sound. A mother and her son were out for a walk when they encountered a woman with two dogs on a leash. The health unit said the woman lost control of the animals, and one of them bit the child. Both dogs were medium-sized. One was described as a mixed retriever breed with blond colouring, while the other was described as an unknown brindle-coloured breed. The second incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday outside an apartment building at 160 11th Avenue in Hanover. In that case, an individual was bitten by a large black dog, who was believed to be a Bull Mastiff-type. The animal was alone, though the victim believed the owner may live nearby. “Staff at Grey Bruce Public Health need to confirm the dogs involved in these biting incidents are not infectious with rabies,” a media release read. “By verifying the health of the dogs, the victims can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment.” Anyone with information related to the Owen Sound incident is asked to contact Public Health Inspector Katelynne Moors at 519-376-9420, ext. 1334.
