Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges in relation to a projector sales scam that targeted local residents. Police received five separate reports of incidents between Aug. 26 and Sept. 18 of individuals trying to sell projectors at “significantly discounted” prices near universities. The low-cost projectors were rebranded and marketed as higher-end models in order to deceive potential buyers. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Burlington man was arrested. He faces 11 charges, including fraud over $5000, fraud under $5000, and forged documentation.
