It was an exciting evening last night as the movie "Sex And The City 2" debuted in North American theaters. My prediction is that the movie will be this summer's biggest style-influence for fashion and decor!

The inspiration starts when movie characters Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte head off to Abu Dhabi for some fun and frolicking. The glamorous wardrobe, stylish hotels and restaurants are truly inspiring. I plan on celebrating the debut over the weekend in real SATC style by hosting a party in honor of the movie. Are you celebrating in style? If so, here are a few elements to incorporate:

Dress code: For the ladies its all about updated 1970's glamour; think wide pants, chiffon blouses and silk bandanas.

The Halston-Heritage silk pleated orange long dress (around $1050) is a must-have if you are a millionaire and hosting a SATC party. Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) flaunts the dress in the movie and is also the Creative Director for Halston-Heritage; the collection is only available in Canada at 18 selected Bay stores (www.hbc.com). High heels are a must-have if hosting a SATC party and there's nowhere more fabulous to find them, than at Holt Renfrew (www.holtrenfrew.com)

Decor: Think ethnic, exotic and Indian/Moroccan inspired home accessories. The place to go is your local Pier 1 store as their summer selection is ripe for the picking at this time with exotic-inspired merchandise in stock; my favorite is the Pagoda Outdoor Umbrella for $169 (www.pier1.com). Everything from Moroccan lanterns, brightly coloured fabrics and fancy umbrellas in colours of orange, turquoise and green will transform your balcony or deck into an exotic getaway for the party.

Snacks and beverages: Nothing will give a more decadent tone to your party than chocolate and champagne.

The Sex in the City chocolate collection from Laura Secord features Champagne truffles, white chocolate raspberry truffles, 70 per cent coca truffles, Dulce de leche truffles, and cappuccino truffles. The bright pink boxes with shiny gold lettering will scream glamor and the small box containing four special chocolates (around $10) will make fabulous take-away gifts.

Drinks: Its seems like the gals love to drink the finest wine and spirits; I guess that's all part of living the glamourous life. The main drink of choice at my party will be the Fashionista and it's a breeze to make:

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 ounce of fresh pomegranate juice,
  • 3 ounces of Moet Chandon champagne
  • a pink rose petal as garnish

Directions:

Pour the pomegranate juice into a glass. Fill with Moet Imperial. Stir gently with a long spoon. Place a pink rose petal over the drink. For a non alcoholic version, substitute the champagne with ginger ale.

Music: The movie's soundtrack "Sex And The City Original Soundtrack" is a fantastic lineup of familiar girl-power songs sung by new and established artists. Warn your neighbors about the music as it's a collection of old favorites (like Liza Minnelli singing Beyonce's Single Lady) that will make you want to crank the volume. The soundtrack went on sale Wednesday and is selling like hot cakes.
