Normally it's the puppies at an animal shelter who get all the "ohhs" and "ahhs" from teenagers, but that wasn't the case in Winnipeg Friday afternoon.

International singing sensation Justin Bieber and his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, stopped by Winnipeg's D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre for a visit.

There are confirmed reports that Gomez even took a pup home with her, giving her a second option if she bores of running her fingers through Bieber's famed hair.

And that's not all the exciting news coming out of Winnipeg.

Bieber, taking a page from any teenage boy's dating catalogue, took Gomez to a classy film about boxing robots Thursday evening.

However, he did score points by renting out an entire theatre at SilverCity Polo Park Cinemas so the pair could watch "Real Steel" in complete romantic privacy. They also enjoyed a pizza, staff said.

Having The Biebs in town has sent Winnipeg teens into a frenzy. Many spent Friday outside the Fairmont Hotel, where the couple is believed to be staying.

"He's got the whole package, he can sing, he can dance, he's so cute," one young lady told CTV Winnipeg of why she was waiting for a glimpse of the Canadian superstar from Stratford, Ont.

Gomez, 19, is on tour in Western Canada and her 17-year-old boyfriend is with her for part of it. She plays Friday night at the MTS Centre.

"I had a great day here in Winnipeg. I can't wait to see y'all tomorrow!!" Gomez tweeted Thursday night.

Bieber on the other hand kept quiet about his Winnipeg trip on Twitter, instead using his impressive online prowess to promote his new video for "Mistletoe."

But he's glad to be back in the home of hockey and poutine.

"Feels good to be back in #CANADA - missed home," he tweeted.
