SELKIRK, Manitoba - An ice jam on the Red River at Selkirk, Manitoba has moved a bit, but cold weather is expected to keep it stalled until late next week.

Selkirk mayor Dave Bell says the ice moved for about an hour yesterday afternoon, creating a wall of broken ice that piled higher and higher.

There was hope it would keep moving and break the seven-kilometre-long jam apart.

But Bell says there was also concern the moving ice could damage a bridge and rip trees from the shore.

The Manitoba government says the jam will keep a flash flood warning in place for Selkirk, just north of Winnipeg.

Last week the ice jam caused the river to overflow its banks, flooding several homes and a museum.

About 100 seniors were also evacuated from two waterfront condo buildings. (
