SEB, the French kitchenware maker known as T-Fal in the U.S. and Canada, has announced that it will unveil the NutriCook Connect, a prototype for the world's first internet-connected pressure cooker, at CES in January.

The idea behind this high-tech kitchen gadget is to optimize cooking time through a dedicated application on a smartphone or tablet, with which the pressure cooker communicates over Bluetooth.

For its French-speaking customers, SEB already offers a dedicated app for iOS and Android, where users can browse recipes and find cooking times for a number of dishes and ingredients. By connecting directly to the Nutricook Connect prototype, the same app is capable of indicating when it is time to add a certain ingredient to the pot or to lower the temperature.

The Nutricook Connect is an integral part of the SEB Group's strategy to bring internet-connected kitchen appliances to the general public. The brand plans to develop a new line of smart and connected appliances that will work in connection with a web platform to make everyday cooking more convenient, efficient and fun.

For the time being, the Nutricook Connect is only in the prototype stage, and there is no word yet on pricing or availability.

CES takes place next January 7 to 10, 2014 in Las Vegas.
