OTTAWA - Health Canada has announced a car seat recall due to two possible health hazards.

The recall involves Chaperone-brand infant car seats that were made in China between April 2009 and May 2010 by the Britax company of North Carolina. The car seats have the model numbers E9L69P2, E9L69P3 and E9L69P5.

Health Canada says the harness chest clip can break, creating sharp edges that could pose a laceration hazard. Due to its small size, the broken clip could also pose a choking hazard to young children.

Britax has received one complaint in Canada, and four in the U.S., where a chest clip fragment was found in the mouth of an infant. Health Canada, however, says it hasn't received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the car seats.

Car seats with the letters "PC" moulded into the plastic are affected by the recall and consumers should immediately contact Britax for a free repair kit.

Approximately 2,350 units of the recalled car seats have been sold by retailers across Canada.
