HALIFAX - The union representing almost 3,600 hospital workers in Halifax filed strike notice with the provincial government today, indicating they could be off the job next week.

Officials with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union say they filed the notice on behalf of members who work at Capital Health.

In a statement, the local says workers will be able to strike as of midnight on April 25.

Union president Joan Jessome says there are no talks scheduled and they haven't been called back to the table.

Members of Local 42 include more than 150 jobs, ranging from nurses and occupational therapists to medical lab technicians and social workers.

Jessome says the local and Capital Health have an emergency services agreement in place in case of a strike or lockout that keeps services like emergency rooms running.
