STONY PLAIN, ALBERTA - The families of four Mounties gunned down on an Alberta farm are having their final say at the inquiry into their deaths.

Judge Daniel Pahl is hearing final arguments before he prepares his report into the killings of constables Anthony Gordon, Brock Myrol, Leo Johnston and Peter Schiemann.

Schiemann's father, Don, says the justice system needs to do a better job of making witnesses testify.

The inquiry has heard how gunman James Roszko had a long record of charges, but few convictions because witnesses would often back out before cases went to trial.

Brock Myrol's mother, Colleen, criticized the media in her statement, saying suggestions that the officers were inexperienced or in over their heads could not have been further from the truth.

Pahl will hear from all sides one last time before he writes his final report in which he can make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
