One of America’s most popular anchormen is coming to Canada as Ron Burgundy joins the TSN sports desk next month.

Burgundy, played by comedian and actor Will Ferrell, has gained a cult-like following after the success of his first movie ‘Anchorman: The Legend of the Ron Burgundy’ in 2004.

The popular newsman will join TSN’s team of broadcasters starting in December – although his role beyond that has not yet been made clear.

Commenting on his upcoming gig, the anchor responded in classic Burgundy fashion: “This is going to end terribly.”

The San Diego native, best known for his polyester suits and 1970s moustache, is no stranger to Canada -- and even offered his support to embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

In an interview with Conan O’Brien on Wednesday, Burgundy said he had great respect for the infamous mayor.

“My dear, dear, dear friend mayor Rob Ford of Toronto is running for re-election and I hold him in the highest regard, he is the best!” Burgundy said.

“He’s controversial because he’s so damn honest,” he added.

Burgundy even agreed to sing Ford’s upcoming re-election campaign song and serenaded the audience with a cover of the 1981 hit “Working for the Weekend” by Canadian band Loverboy.

Burgundy is currently promoting his new movie ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ which opens on Dec. 20.

Details surrounding Burgundy’s new role on TSN will be revealed during network’s live broadcast of the 101st Grey Cup this Sunday.
