Zach’s not back quite yet. Edmonton Oilers head coach Mike Babcock said Tuesday after his team’s morning skate that winger Zach Hyman remains day-to-day. Hyman, who has often skated on the top line of the Oilers (4-0-1) alongside superstar Connor McDavid, has been practising with his teammates on the current road trip, which concludes with an 8:30 p.m. MT game against the Los Angeles Kings (0-2-2). The 34-year-old has been out of the lineup since playing in the season opener two weeks ago. Babcock told reporters Hyman is “close” to returning but will miss his fifth straight game. The Oilers’ injured reserve list includes forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Mattias Janmark and Colton Dach, along with defenceman Alec Regula. Of those players, only Dach has seen action this season. The 23-year-old forward had been playing centre with Nugent-Hopkins and Jason Dickinson out of the lineup. Dickinson has since returned, while Dach played the first three games of the season before joining the IR last Wednesday. Defenceman Jake Walman is not on injured reserve but will miss his second straight game after suffering an upper-body injury while blocking a shot in the Oilers’ win Wednesday over the Anaheim Ducks.
