A man who was on release orders for uttering threats and assault in Calgary and B.C. now has a warrant issued for him by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) after similar reports of harassment against women on dating and escort sites in November. Police say they received a report against Matthew Edward Williams, a 36-year-old man who also goes by Matthew Galpin, from a woman who first matched with Williams on Tinder in 2022. She told police the two had exchanged phone numbers before he began berating and harassing her. EPS said the woman blocked him but he then used several different phone numbers to continue messaging her. Although the harassment stopped for a few years, EPS said Williams once again found the woman on LeoList, an online escort service, in 2025 and this time used a fake name and photo to arrange a date with her. When the woman refused to continue the date with him, police say he started threatening her. Williams is now wanted in Edmonton for charges of uttering threats to cause bodily harm and criminal harassment. In 2023, Calgary police issued warrants against Williams after three women came forward to report they got messages threatening violence from him on dating websites. He is currently bound by release orders from the investigations in Calgary and another in B.C., according to EPS. Edmonton police believe there may be other women in the Edmonton area who met Williams and are asking them to come forward by contacting EPS at 780-423-4567. Anyone with information about Williams’ location is also asked to contact police.
