Today’s setting up to be Edmonton’s hottest day since late May. The city only had a handful of 25 C days in June (and nothing warmer than 26 C). But, we should get to around 28 C under mainly sunny skies today. Wind will gust to around 30 km/h midday and this afternoon, but that’s not terribly strong. An area of low pressure will sweep into nothwestern Alberta tonight and early Wednesday bringing a chance of some showers/thunderstorms to that corner of the province tonight and Wednesday morning. Those scattered showers and thunderstorms will move east through the Edmonton and Red Deer regions on Wednesday. The best chance for that action would be midday and through the afternoon. There’s a higher risk of severe storms in east-central and northeastern Alberta Wednesday afternoon/evening. The low-pressure system will slowly truck around northern Alberta Wednesday/Thursday and should be over northeastern Alberta by Thursday afternoon. That’ll swing the wind direction around to northwesterly with gusts around 40 km/h in the Edmonton area Thursday. It doesn’t look like it’ll rain all day, but we’ll have scattered showers in the area in the morning and early afternoon. Then, some clearing in the evening. Some heavier and steadier rain is likely in the far north (High Level/Fort Chipewyan areas) Thursday. Friday-Sunday all have a chance of scattered showers. The timing on those is still a bit TBD, but it doesn’t look like any of those days will be complete washouts, it should be very hit-n-miss. Temperatures will cool a bit after today.
