St. Albert veterinary clinic seeking home for abandoned cats

Staff at a veterinary clinic in St. Albert are putting out the call for a forever home for two cats that were found abandoned in a sealed bin Wednesday.

Staff at the Mission Ridge Animal Hospital said a passerby noticed a plastic bin outside of the Liberton Drive clinic, near the dumpster.

The bin, which had been taped shut, contained two cats.

A note had been attached to the outside, the writer apologizing, saying they could no longer care for the cats.

Clinic staff told CTV News the animals were found and rescued just in time – they could have suffocated if left any longer.

“I think it was just not a very well thought-out plan,” Debra Briton with the Mission Ridge Animal Hospital said. “It was a container to hold the cats in hopes that someone would come by and find them.

“We’re just very fortunate that the gentleman found them when he did because I think if they had been left there any longer they wouldn’t have made it in the tub.”

It’s believed one of the cats is less than one year old; the other is several years older. Both are male.

For now, the clinic will look after the cats – but are asking anyone interested in adopting one or both of the cats to contact them.
