No flights took off from or landed at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) for a couple of hours Tuesday night because of a plane’s mechanical issue. Shortly before 7 p.m., a Calgary-bound Air Canada Express flight returned to the airport due to a “gear retraction issue,” according to an airline spokesperson. “After landing, the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue with its nose gear, necessitating the passengers be transported by bus back to the terminal.” No one was hurt. The plane was removed from the runway at 9:15 p.m. and is being inspected. Air Canada says it arranged for the 39 passengers on board the flight to continue their journey that night. There were 22 cancellations, 10 delays, and five diversions that eventually landed at the airport, the airport told CTV News Edmonton. “Due to construction, YEG could not accept or depart any flights for a short period,” spokesperson Cindy Barclay said. “At YEG, the safety and security of our passengers, team members and partners remain our top priority. We are grateful there were no injuries and thank everyone for their continued commitment to safe operations.”
