Edmonton and surrounding areas were ravaged by a heavy windstorm for the second time this week as officials stood by to repair damaged lines causing power outages. Fortis Alberta, which supplies power to much of the province, said on social media it was experiencing “high call volumes and longer than normal” customer service wait times as outages increase through the province. Gusts are expected to reach 100 km/h in parts of the city on Saturday. Fortis told CTV News Edmonton it was responding to multiple calls of downed wires and power lines due to high winds. “We have mobilized field crews across the province and called in all available resources to support the response,” communications manager Tanya Croft said. Updated estimated restoration times will be available on the Fortis outage map once call numbers and assessments have been solidified, she added. This is a developing story.
