2 hospitalized after north Edmonton crash

Edmonton police closed the intersection of 153 Avenue and Castle Downs Road late Tuesday morning to investigate a collision that sent two drivers to hospital.

Around 9:25 a.m., a Cadillac Escalade being driven by a 19-year-old man was going northbound on Castle Downs Road when another vehicle began to stop for a yellow light. Police say the Escalade driver quickly changed lanes to avoid the stopped vehicle and drove into the intersection.

At the same time, a Ford Escape being driven by a 44-year-old man southbound on Castle Downs Road was turning east. The two vehicles crashed into one another.

Both drivers were treated by EMS and taken to hospital. The Escape driver had serious but non-life-threatening injuries while the Escalade driver had minor injuries.

Edmonton police say they do not believe speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
