Edmonton has a chance to do something today that we’ve only done once before this month: get above 25 C. The city has hit 24.8 C twice, but only Aug. 1 was above 25 C (high of 29.5 C). We’ll get to 25 or 26 C this afternoon and should hit 26 C again Wednesday. It’s also VERY likely that we’ll be in the upper 20s Friday/Saturday in the city. The average high for mid-to-late Aug is 22 C. It appears we’ll be above that for most (maybe all) of the next 10 to 14 days. That’s a BIG flip from the first half of August. Edmonton had eight cooler-than-average days and just three warmer-than-average days in the first half of August (1-16). We may end up with only one or two cooler-than-average days in the last half of the month and nine to twelve warmer-than-average days. Precipitation outlook: Some rogue showers popped up on the eastern edge of the Edmonton region early this morning and continue to track away from the city. It’s also areas east of Edmonton that have the best chance at seeing some isolated showers and thunderstorms through this afternoon/evening. For Edmonton and area, the next chance for some precipitation is a slight risk Thursday afternoon. We’ll see how that develops in the coming day(s); confidence in that is fairly low at this point. The better bet would be for some showers/thunderstorms this weekend... especially Sunday afternoon/evening. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Sunny this morning. Partly cloudy this afternoon. High: 26 Tonight - Partly cloudy. 9pm: 19 Wednesday - Partly cloudy in the morning. Sunny in the afternoon. Wind becoming NW 15 gusting to 30 in the afternoon. Morning Low: 13 Afternoon High: 26 Thursday - Mix of sun & cloud. Slight risk of an afternoon shower/thunderstorm. Morning Low: 13 Afternoon High: 24 Friday - Partly cloudy. Morning Low: 14 Afternoon High: 27 Saturday- Partly cloudy. Morning Low: 14 Afternoon High: 28 Sunday - Mostly cloudy. 40% chance of late-day showers. Morning Low: 13 Afternoon High: 23
