The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation announced a series of community events coming to Fan Park at Edmonton’s Ice District next month. August shows a busy schedule with free activities for families to partake in as part of the Summer SolstICE Event Series. ICE District Classic The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) and BHE1 Sports will bring together over 500 kids of all skill levels for a weekend of 3-on-3 ball hockey. Each team can roster up to 10 players, including nine runners and one goalie. The tournament will run from Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9. People will need to register their team by Aug. 1. Every Kid Deserves a Shot Community Day The event will feature activities for all ages, food trucks, bouncy castles, a balloon artist and a special guest appearance from Oilers mascot Hunter the Lynx. A meet-and-greet with Oilers Alumni Ben Scrivens and Seattle Torrent forward Danielle Serdachny will also take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Every Kid Deserves a Shot Community Day takes place on Sunday, Aug. 9. This is open to the community and people are encouraged to register in advance. Hoop City 3x3 EFCL Festival 3x3 will feature youth basketball divisions for boys and girls in U13, U15 and U18 categories. Players can register as a team of three to five players or as individuals. The festival will include jerseys, championship prizes, shooting competitions, food trucks and a DJ, with all proceeds supporting the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues’ 3x3 Program Development. The event is open to all, with financial assistance available for players. People can register for the Hoop City 3x3 EFCL Festival which takes place Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. So far this year, there’s been 50 community programming events at Fan Park with more scheduled for the rest of the year: A full lineup of Summer SolstICE events in Fan Park can be found at the Ice District’s website.
