The bottom won’t fall out on temperatures immediately, but, the warm spell is definitely over. Edmonton hit highs of 7 C on Saturday and 4 C on Sunday. Today, we’ll be right around the freezing mark for an afternoon high. THEN...we slip into the -5 C to -10 C range for highs Wednesday-Sunday. That’s a big swing from where we’ve been up to this point. There’s only been ONE day this entire month with a daytime high below 0 C (and just barely). Back on Nov. 7, the high was -0.1 C in Edmonton. So, after a warmer than average month... we’ll end November with a string of colder-than-average days. But...there may not be much snow on the ground to go along with the cool down. It’s a different story in southern and western Alberta. Snowfall warnings are in effect for areas south of Calgary today (10-15 cm) and the mountain parks received some heavy snow over the weekend. Jasper’s Marmot Basin ski resort got more than 30 cm of snow and just announced it will be opening on Wednesday (after having to delay their opening date a few weeks ago). In Edmonton, there’s no snow coming until MAYBE Friday. And...that looks like it’ll probably be no more than flurries (if anything). That system on Friday looks like it’ll mainly affect southern Alberta. After that, there’s a chance of some snow Sunday/Monday - but it’s too early to have a whole lot of confidence in that. Edmonton has had measurable snow cover by Dec. 1 in nine of the past 10 years. So...if we make it to next week without any snow, it would be a bit of a rarity.
