The Edmonton area escaped the snow overnight as the precipitation all landed as rain in the area. But, you don’t have to travel to far to the north or east to run into snow. 511 Alberta highway cameras are showing snow on the ground in the Redwater/Bruderheim areas and around Elk Island. There’s also a snow on the ground and still coming down in a broad band from Peace River southeast to Viking and Lloydminster. Most of that snow will continue to stay north and east of the Edmonton region through today. But, there’s a small chance of a few flurries in the Edmonton area later this morning. By this afternoon: just cloudy and cool. The next low-pressure system will move across southern Alberta on Friday. The best chance for snow with that system will be south of Edmonton. But, we’ll probably see some snow starting as early as midday and continuing through the afternoon. Again, like last night, there’s no guarantee that we get accumulating snow in Edmonton. But...it’s possible that we pick up 1 to 4 cm of snow by Friday night. So, we may have some snow on the ground (especially grassy areas) to start the weekend. But... it’s unlikely that we’ll still have snow on the ground by the end of the weekend. Temperatures will be just slightly above average most of today and just slightly below 0 C all day Friday. But, we should get to the 2 to 5 C range Saturday (depending on if there’s snow on the ground or not on the cool side of that range if there is and the warm side of the range if there isn’t). Sunday jumps to the 5 to 9 C range and we’ll be up close to 10 C for afternoon highs Monday/Tuesday. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - 30% chance of flurries this morning.
