Members of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Edmonton gathered in Griesbach Sunday to commemorate King Charles III’s coronation with a tree planting ceremony. “The King is our patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society, so it’s a commemoration of his reign and recognition of his position as the King,” said the society’s president Ian Havin. The society planted a bur oak tree, symbolizing strength, legacy and environmental stewardship. “It’s planted there for sustainability to recognize his reign as the stewardship of the Commonwealth,” said Havin. “It will last maybe 400 years, it will grow 15 to 30 metres in height, and it’s a testament to his strength and resilience in the world today.” Community residents and members of the Monarchist League joined the society in the ceremony at The Village community gardens where the bur oak is planted.
