Police are looking for the driver who hit a 15-year-old boy on a bicycle in a marked crosswalk on Monday and fled the scene. The hit-and-run happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of westbound Desrochers Boulevard SW and Desrochers Drive SW. The teen was crossing the street on the north side of the intersection when the driver of a southbound silver sedan failed to stop at the stop sign and struck him. Police say they were driving at a “high rate of speed.” They continued south on Desrochers Drive SW and then headed west on 41 Avenue SW. The boy was hospitalized and is expected to recover. “The complete disregard shown by the driver of this vehicle after striking this child is appalling,” said Staff Sgt. David Crisp of the Edmonton Police Service’s southwest branch. “I am hoping that someone can contact police with information about this incident so we can hold the driver of this vehicle accountable.” The four-doored sedan could have been an older Volkswagen, police believe. Investigators say it might also have damage on its front end. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 780-423-4567, #377 from a mobile phone or Crime Stoppers.
