An Alberta man has been arrested in Florida on accusations he sexually touched a child. According to court documents, Curtis Elliot Smith, 47, of Stony Plain was arrested at Ft. Lauderdale Beach Resort Hotel & Suites in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Dec. 30. The police report says Smith approached a nine-year-old boy in the outdoor area of the hotel on Dec. 29 and began touching him, eventually touching his genitals. The report continues that the boy got up and went to sit at a table with an unknown family, but that he was followed by Smith, who inappropriately touched him again. The report says the man sitting at the table asked the boy if he knew Smith, and when the boy said that he did not, the man became irate and confronted Smith, who locked himself in his hotel room. Smith has been charged with lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12-years-old by an offender 18 years of age or older, which is a felony charge under the Florida Statutes. He was denied bail.
