Wood Buffalo RCMP are warning the public after a recent increase in suspected drug overdoses within the community. RCMP have responded to six suspected drug overdoses since July 18, according to a release on Wednesday. “We are urging anyone who uses illegal substances to exercise extreme caution,” said Insp. Troy Switzer of Wood Buffalo RCMP. “A single use can have fatal consequences. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our community, and we encourage residents to be aware of the risks and seek help when needed.” RCMP say in each of these separate instances, members administered naloxone (Narcan) to individuals experiencing a suspected overdose. They were then transported for medical assistance and further assessment. Residents are reminded that signs of an overdose can include: If you suspect someone is experiencing an overdose, RCMP say to call 911 immediately, administer naloxone if you have it, stay with them until emergency crews arrive and follow dispatcher instructions. Anyone with information regarding the trafficking of illegal drugs is encouraged to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP or submit to Crime Stoppers.
