David Hughes

David Hughes is Executive Director and Managing Editor, Content, CTV News, a position he moved into in September 2018. Based in Toronto, he oversees the editorial content of CTV National News and management of network domestic and international bureaus.

Previously, Hughes was Executive Producer of CTV NATIONAL NEWS for more than seven years, and under his stewardship the broadcast won multiple awards, including several Canadian Screen Awards for Best National Newscast.

During more than three decades with CTV News, Hughes has taken on a variety of roles, spending more than a decade as Senior Producer of CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LLOYD ROBERTSON, working on both foreign and domestic assignment desks, and as a news writer and National Specials Producer. During his tenure, he has helped shape news coverage ranging from the Iraq War to the Olympics, and oversaw the coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks, while ensuring CTV National News never lost sight of the domestic issues at hand.

Hughes was a pivotal part of the original team tasked with building a broadcast, staffing, and creating a technical plan for CTV’s 24-hour all-news station – now known as CTV News Channel.

Before joining CTV News, Hughes spent three years in Hamilton, Ont. in the newsroom of CHCH-TV.
