ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Premier Danny Williams is denouncing the way Newfoundland and Labrador's largest health board released new information about the number of patients who need their breast cancer test results reviewed.

Late last Friday, Eastern Health issued a statement announcing that breast cancer tests belonging to 38 patients were missed in a wider review of test results.

At the time, an official with Eastern Health said she could not provide any more information beyond what was in the statement.

Williams says the manner in which Eastern Health released that information was "disgraceful" and accused the health board of trying to mislead the media.

A month ago, a public inquiry concluded Eastern Health had failed to appropriately communicate with its patients and the public the magnitude of botched breast cancer tests that affected at least 386 patients.

Earlier today, Eastern Health announced that the breast cancer test results of 43 patients -- and not 38 as it announced on Friday -- need to be reviewed.
