SURREY, B.C. - A pedestrian has been critically injured in Surrey, B.C., and a teenage driver is under investigation after a bizarre crash.

RCMP say that just after 10 p.m. on Monday, a 17-year-old driver of a grey Mercedes tried to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder of King George Blvd.

The teen slammed into an illegally parked car, sending that vehicle into a utility pole while the Mercedes careened into the 66-year-old pedestrian.

The unidentified woman was severely injured and airlifted to hospital, while her dog died at the scene.

Sgt. Dale Carr says the young driver was slightly hurt and an investigation is underway into a possible case of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
