HALIFAX -- Bone-chilling temperatures have descended across Atlantic Canada.
Wind chill warnings are in effect for northern Nova Scotia, all of New Brunswick, P.E.I. and western Labrador.
Environment Canada says the wind chill factor will dip as low as -41 C across New Brunswick today.
As a result, schools in the northwestern corner of the province have been closed, including those in Grand Falls, Edmundston, Plaster Rock and Perth-Andover.
Cold air from the Arctic pushed by northwesterly winds has also left northern Nova Scotia in a deep freeze, making temperatures that will feel like -35 C.
Meanwhile, snow squall warnings have been issued for the south and west coasts of Newfoundland, where up to 20 centimetres of snow is in the forecast.
