WHISTLER, B.C. -- A 43-year-old American skier has died after apparently falling over a cliff on Whistler Mountain.

RCMP say the man was spotted Monday by another skier in the Franz's Meadows area of the mountain.

Sgt. Rob Knapton says the other skier called the Whistler Ski Patrol, but attempts by ski patrol members and doctors failed to revive the man.

Knapton says that from the injuries and the location of the body, it appears the man fell from a cliff area above Franz's Meadows.

RCMP and the B.C. Coroner's Service are investigating the death.

The name of the man, who was from Oklahoma, has not yet been released.
