Search teams are looking for a sailor who disappeared from a military base in Nova Scotia a week ago.

The search for Leading Seaman Benoit Bilodeau began near 12 Wing Shearwater on Friday night and resumed Saturday morning, CTV Atlantic’s Kayla Hounsell reported. A command centre has also been set up near the military base.

The Canadian Forces say Bilodeau, 48, was last seen walking near a bus stop in front of the base around 4 p.m. on Nov. 21. He was reported missing last Wednesday.

The Canadian Forces National Investigation Services said earlier this week that it had received a number of tips in relation to Bilodeau’s disappearance, but is still asking anyone with information to contact military police.

A military spokesperson said it is out of character for Bilodeau, who has nearly 30 years of service, not to report for work every day.

Bilodeau is described as a white male, six-foot-one and weighing approximately 165 lbs. He has short brown hair.

He was last seen carrying a standard military pattern olive green duffle bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Military Police Unit in Halifax at 902-722-4446.
