A missing three-year-old boy from Colorado has been found safe at a motel in Brandon, Manitoba, after an alleged kidnapping.

The boy’s father, Monty Turner, is accused of breaking into the Longmont, Colo. home of Brandy Turner, the boy’s mother and Turner’s estranged wife, on Saturday morning. He allegedly assaulted her, sprayed her with pepper spray, and stunned her with an electronic device.

Turner then allegedly kidnapped the boy, riding away on a bicycle before switching into a vehicle.

The Longmont Police Department, who say there was a protection order prohibiting Turner from contacting his estranged wife and son, quickly issued an Amber Alert.

On Sunday, acting on a tip from American law enforcement agencies, police found Turner and the boy at the Casablanca Motor Lodge in Brandon.

Restaurant employee Rita Song watched the arrest unfold through a window. She says several squad cars arrived at the motel parking lot from different directions.

“And they take out their guns and point to that guy. And then a police got onto that guy and got him off the car, I think,” she told CTV Winnipeg.

The Brandon Police Service says the toddler was unharmed and has been turned over to Child and Family Services until he can be reunited with his mother, Brandy.

Brandy told a local Colorado TV station Sunday night that she can’t wait to see her son again.

"I just talked to Luke a little while ago; He's in Canada, He's in a foster home for the night. Apparently, there are logistics in getting him back across the border, I don't have a passport. I did get to talk to him; he's excited about coming home and he was glad to talk to me,” she said.

The motel's owner says police were able to find Turner because he had used his credit card to check into the motel.

Monty Turner is facing a total of eight charges, including kidnapping and assault. He is also wanted in Colorado for failing to comply with a $50,000 bond related to previous charges.

Canadian and U.S. authorities are now working to coordinate Turner’s extradition back to Colorado to stand trial.
