Actor Kiefer Sutherland spent part of his childhood in Toronto, so he’s probably fairly comfortable using the city’s public transit system.

But when he hopped on the city’s Bloor-Danforth subway line earlier this week, he appeared to be sort of … uncomfortable.

A fellow passenger, Safiah Chowdhury, snapped a photo of the actor riding the subway, his arm raised as he gripped a pole. According to a tweet posted on Sept. 8, Sutherland observed how hot it was on the vehicle during the ride.

Sutherland has been filming his new TV series “Designated Survivor” in Toronto in recent weeks.

The heat on the trains has been difficult to ignore for thousands of commuters this summer, who have to endure the east-west Bloor-Danforth line in sweltering temperatures.

Nearly a quarter of the subway cars have no functioning air conditioning. The matter has yet to be resolved, as transit officials say the old cars’ air conditioning systems require fixes both on their roofs and undercarriages, which “prolongs the period” of repair.

Sutherland’s apparently warm ride comes just days after Toronto Mayor John Tory took up a challenge from an angry rider to ride the line in a non-air-conditioned train.

Afterward Tory acknowledged that the transit system needs help, but noted aging subway equipment require costly repairs.
