HALIFAX - The eighth annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Halifax has been cancelled because organizers say downtown streets remain choked with too much ice and snow.

The parade's organizing committee issued a statement Tuesday saying a number of participants said they were worried about getting floats through the narrow streets.

As well, spokesman Pat Brownlow said sidewalks along the proposed route are still a mess.

He said one participant told him that one of the floats that was supposed to be in the parade is still frozen solid in a driveway.

The parade was supposed to be held Saturday.
