A father and his 10-year-old daughter were killed in Whistler over the weekend when a large boulder fell on their tent, according to police.

Whistler RCMP said the North Vancouver duo was skiing and camping on Blackcomb Mountain when they were reported missing. Police were alerted after the father and daughter missed their scheduled check-in time on Sunday.

A search-and-rescue team was dispatched to the area, along with Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol. The search was suspended around 11 p.m. Sunday due to safety reason, but rescuers went out again early Monday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m. local time, searchers located a tent above an area known as The Windlip. Police said it appears that a large boulder fell from the rock face on the tent, killing the father and daughter inside.

The victims’ names have not been released.
