A DNA test confirms the identity of Robert Hall, the Canadian hostage who was beheaded in the Philippines earlier in June by the terror group Abu Sayyaf, police say.

The Philippine National Police said on Facebook that its crime laboratory positively matched the DNA profile of a severed head with Hall’s.

"The match, undoubtedly confirms the identity of the severed head as belonging to Mr. Robert Hall," the Facebook post said.

Hall was believed to be beheaded by Abu Sayyaf fighters on June 13 on the southern Philippine island of Jolo. The Canadian was killed after a ransom deadline had passed.

The kidnappers holding Hall were demanding an $8-million ransom, which Canadian authorities refused to pay.

Hall, along with Canadian hostage John Ridsdel, a Norwegian man and a Filipino woman were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf fighters from an upscale Filipino resort last September.

Ridsdel, 68, was beheaded in April.
