The City of Toronto says it's investigating the unauthorized use of its logo on a billboard supportive of embattled Mayor Rob Ford.

The billboard was erected on the Gardiner Expressway in the city's west end on Friday night, but was removed by Saturday afternoon.

It reads: "We support Mayor Ford" next to a City of Toronto logo.

The billboard also included a spelling error, reading "Ford = Fiscal Responsiblity (sic)".

Along the bottom, the billboard referenced a biblical verse: "Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone John 8:7 (NTL)".

An image of the billboard made the rounds on social media Friday, with many Twitter and Instagram users commenting on the typo.

On Friday evening, City of Toronto staff tweeted that they were notified of the sign: "We are aware of the billboard at the Gardiner and Islington and are addressing the unauthorized use of the Toronto logo."

It isn't known who paid for the advertisement.

The billboard follows a tumultuous week for Ford, who, following months of drug-use allegations, admitted to smoking crack cocaine about a year ago while in a "drunken stupor."

Later in the week, a video of Ford caught in a violent rant was made public. Ford said he was embarrassed by the video and "very, very inebriated" when he was recorded.

The mayor, who is three years into a four-year term, is facing growing pressure to either resign or take a leave of absence.
