An Edmonton community is rallying to help a five-year-old girl suffering from terminal cancer check off every item on her bucket list, including her biggest wish of all: meeting Taylor Swift.

Ava Hadfield has a tumor on her brain stem so aggressive that it keeps coming back even after chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries.

Doctors have told Ava’s parents, Mandy and Jason, that their daughter only has about a year to live. In that time, they are trying to fulfill as many of Ava’s dreams as they can.

“We decided we need to do this now and see what we can check of the list,” Jason said.

Ava now has a collection of 574 lipsticks, her own puppy, and she’ll be taking part in a beauty pageant at the end of July. Her biggest wish is to meet Taylor Swift.

The girl’s family and friends have come together to create “Ava’s Army,” which has its own Twitter page dedicated to helping Ava get in touch with the pop star.

“Those memories are going to be huge for her,” Mandy said.

Ava already has a ticket to one of Swift’s concerts. Her parents are hoping the online campaign will catch Swift’s attention and that the singer will agree to meet with their daughter before it’s too late.
