Passengers on WestJet flight 2390 bound for Varadero, Cuba, ended up being diverted twice Saturday, before ending their day in Toronto. The airline confirmed to CTV News Sunday morning that the flight, carrying 157 passengers, was diverted once “out of caution to perform unscheduled maintenance” and then a second time, “to offload a guest who had become unruly mid-flight.” The airline gave hotel rooms and food vouchers to passengers before re-booking them on a flight to Varadero Sunday morning. “WestJet apologizes for the resulting disruption to these guests’ travel plans,” a spokesperson said in an email. Calgarian Michael de Armas’s nephew was on the flight, and only understands basic English, causing confusion as the flight departed from Calgary, returned to Calgary, took off a second time, then landed in Toronto. Passengers are scheduled to land in Varadero Sunday afternoon.
